Relax, Don't Worry and Have a Homebrew!

Welcome to the home of the Hells Canyon Homebrewers Club, the Lewis-Clark valleys very own organization for homebrewers and beer fanciers.  Members run the gamut from All-Grain brewers to Extract brewers to members still waiting to brew their first batch.  Basically, if you got 10.00/year, a love of beer and a couple hours a month, this club is for you!

May Meeting was at Hogan's in Clarkston.  Great turnout, and great beers all around.

Mike once again reminded us to get to brewing for Oktoberfest.  Anyone interested in attending the Oregon brewers festival needs to get in touch with Brad Peer as he is finalizing the arrangements.

June Meeting will be at Kelly and Charlotte Beans house in Lewiston on Wed, June 25th at 7:00pm.  They live at 600 20th Ave in the Reno area in Lewiston.  From Southway, turn south on 7th st then take a right on 20th Ave.  Their house is at the end on your left.

April Meeting was at the brew cellar at Wasem's Drug in Clarkston.  Thanks again to Rick for allowing us to use his space.  There was a tremendous turnout with over 35 people there.  Rick and his crew have done a fine job in establishing a homebrew store for us.  Many, many thanks.  There was a TON of great beer there.  Good job all!

I apologize for not keeping you more up to date, but as you know, Marv and I have been busy.  Check in at www.riverportbrewing.com for details and see us make our dreams into reality.

May Meeting will be at Hogan's in Clarkston on Wed, May 28th at 7:00pm.

March Meeting was at the Bassalt Cellars in Clarkston.  Rick Wasem was a wonderful host and was gracious enough to share some of his great wines with all of the beer geeks in attendance.  The meeting was well attended with more than 30 people enjoying the excellent homebrews, wines and snacks.  What a great place for a meeting.

Mike reminded us to keep Oktoberfest in the back of our minds and make sure and get a batch going for it.  We discussed glass sizes and Dave Pankey is on a quest for the perfect smaller glass for this years event.

Rick Wasem announced that Wasem's Drug in Clarkston will soon be our one and only local homebrew supply store.  No more long trips to Moscow burning gas to get the goods we all need.  It's gonna be great to have a local resource for all of our brewing needs.  We all need to step up and support his efforts however we can.  Hopefully the homebrew area will be completed and ready for business somewhere around the second week of April.

Pete announced that the spring session of the LCSC Continuing Education Homebrewing Class will start on Wednesday, April 9th in his garage.  Registration was brisk this term and unfortunately the class is full +2!!  Twelve participants, makes a crowded garage.   We have always welcomed and encouraged alumni to attend, but keep in mind it's (more than ever) going to be (hopefully) controlled chaos.

National Homebrew Day if fast approaching.  Mark Saturday, May 3rd on your calendars and plan to attend this years big brew/BBQ!  We will be brewing and celebrating this glorious event at Marv's house this year.  We will have leftover brats from last years Oktoberfest and everyone is encouraged to bring a side dish of some sort.  Everybody is encouraged to attend and we welcome anybody who would like to brew.  Marv will be brewing, Pete will drag his crap over and hopefully we will get others to do so as well.  The AHA website has this years official big brew recipes posted on the site.  The first is an English Bitter that was a favorite of the late Michael Jackson called Chiswick Bitter.  The second official recipe is called Fill in the Hop Blonde Ale and addresses the current hop crisis with its rather vague hop schedule.  Participants can choose either of the recipes posted, or bring your own.  Of course there will be homebrew to quench your thirst as well.

Brad Peer had a signup sheet and more information about the Oregon Brewers Festival trip we are hoping to pull off.  The trip sounds like a blast!

New photos are here from this years Wild Rovers Pub Crawl.

April Meeting will be Wednesday, April 30th at 7:00pm at Wasem's Drug in Clarkston in the new homebrew and wine making shop in the basement.  Wasems is located at the corner of 5th and Elm streets downtown Clarkston.

February Meeting was at The Emperor of India King Thai restaurant in Lewiston.  Thanks for loaning us your space and for being such gracious hosts!  Lots of good homebrews all around as well.  There were around 18 in attendance and again, fun was had by all.

Upcoming events were the hot topic of the meeting.  First, mark your calendars and plan to attend the Home and Garden show at the Nez Perce County fairgrounds on Saturday, March 8th as we will be doing a demonstration brew in front near the entrance.  Plans are to brew some Scottish Ale for the LFD's newly forming drum and bagpipe corps.  Contact Mike Busch or Pete Broyles for details.

Next would be the annual Wild Irish Rovers St Paddy's day Pub Crawl and drink fest taking place on Saturday March the 15th.  We will be starting at Rowdy's Steakhouse and wandering the streets of Lewiston searching for that pot o' gold (or porcelain altar, whichever comes first).  For those who have never attended, you gotta do this at least once in your lifetime.  Scheduled departure form Rowdy's is 4:00pm.  You can contact Brad Peer or Pete Broyles for details.

Brad also presented some more information on the planning of the Great 2008 Columbia River Pub Crawl.  AKA a bus trip to the Oregon Brewers Festival in July.  He promises to have more details at next months meeting.

March Meeting will be held at Basalt Cellars in Clarkston.  It is located on Port Drive near the Quality Inn behind Costco.  Directions are here.

January Meeting was at Marv's house again.  What a great setup for our meetings and I think we had near a record for homebrews at this one.  Great job to all that brought beer.

Several things were discussed.  Brad brought information on a potential bus trip to the Oregon Brewers Festival in Portland that is being held in July.  We are anxious to see what he comes up with and there was a lot of interest in this event.  Thoughts are that if we fill the bus we can get the costs down enough that it would make it very do-able.

Pete brought up the upcoming St Patrick's day pub crawl.  Clint Shaul has been in charge of this for years and it is a hoot.  The pub crawl starts on the afternoon of the saturday before St. Pat's day (Mar 15th) at Rowdy's near the mall.  It proceeds (on foot) down 21st St to Barleyhoppers and then heads west down Main St.  17 Bars s the goal, and I personally guarantee a great time.  T-Shirts are available, preliminary costs are 25.00ea, but that depends on how many are ordered.  They may come in at less than that.  We need sizes sometime in Mid February.  Email me your shirt size and I will get it to Clint if you are interested.

February Meeting will be held at The Emperor of India King Thai restaurant at 854 Main St in Lewiston on February 27th at 7:00pm

Sorry for not updating the site sooner. Work has been real hectic lately. I will do my best to be quicker next time.

December Meeting
was at Dennis Schult's house on New Years Eve and was a great time. I had to leave early, so not much to report from me, but if you haven't heard, Dennis s leaving to move to Wyoming. Best of luck to you Dennis!

January Meeting
will be at Marv Eveland's house once again. 1327 Wallace Drive in Lewiston on Wed. Jan 30th at 7:00pm. Wallace is on the east side of 14th St. (Above McSorely and Regence) and Marv's house is on the left towards the end. See you there!

November Meeting was at Hogan's in Clarkston and we had a GREAT turnout.  Seems the club just seems to get stronger all the time and the beers get better every month!  Great job all.

Mike called the meeting to order and as usual, was a veritable font of great information.  I just can't remember what it was right now....

Marv challenged the club members to come up with beers that use a minimum amount of hops and/or a substitution given the current hop crises.  Some ideas were tossed around and it promises to be a fun experiment.  Try to come up with something we can sample at our February meeting.

Rick Wasem (from Wasem's Drug and Bassalt Cellars) attended and made the announcement that he would like to start carrying beer and wine making supplies at the drug store in Clarkston.  This is great news and we all need to rally support for this as it would be an invaluable resource for us to be able to pick up supplies without having to drive to Moscow or Spokane.  He would like for us to come up with a "wish list" of things we would like to see him carry.  So drop me an email letting me know what you would like to see and I will compile the list and get it to him.

December Meeting will be held at Dennis Schult's house on Monday, December 31st at 7pm as part of our annual New Years Eve get together at Dennis' place.  It promises to be a great evening of fun!

October Meeting was held at Dave & Betty Kendrick's house and what a blast it was.  We had a great turnout and had great costumes all around.  Not sure how many were there, but it was very well attended.  I have posted an album of the few photos I took here.

Dave Pankey gave us the financial report and the final numbers from Oktoberfest.  We had over 350 tickets sold and are completely out of glasses for the first time in years.  All in all, this years event went off great.  Besides being a great time, I think we came together and hosted a really quality party.  Good job everyone.  Mike started hounding us again to brew for next year.  It's only 11 months away you know!

We have been invited to participate in the lighted Christmas parade in Clarkston this year.  Mike volunteered to steer the committee to get this organized so anybody that would like to participate, please email or call him.  The parade is on Saturday, December 1st at 4:30pm.  We need to get our application in by November 29th so let's get rolling on this if we are going to participate.

Pete just finished up the LCSC Homebrewing class for this fall and reported that we most likely will cultivate several new members from the class and will definitely get some great brewers from the 10 students that took the class.  Jody Wood was at the meeting and brought a couple bottles of the scottish ale they made in the class.  Great Job!  She has already joined the club so welcome Jody!

We voted (kinda) and decided to purchase the "beer tent" from Marv so that we can have it for other events.  Marv bought the thing to use and it has worked our really well.  If you haven't seen it, check out the pictures from this year Oktoberfest.

Pete also announced that he will be hosting this years "Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day" celebration.  It is this Saturday, November the 3rd from 10am to 3pm.  A press release is posted here.

Door prizes this month were provided by Rogue, Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, Brew City and Deschutes Brewing.  Many thanks to them for helping make our meetings (and lives) a little more fun!

November Meeting will once again be at Hogan's on Wednesday November 28th at 7:00pm.  If you have never done it, I would suggest that you try dinner there prior to or during the meeting.  Tony does a fabulous job there!

If any club members have any digital photos they wouldn't mind sharing, you can email them to me to be included on the web site here.

Anybody interested in joining can contact any member of the club, or just show up at a meeting.  Any member would just love to help a newcomer to learn to brew.

Reminder that this months meeting will be at Dave & Betty Kendricks house at 1131 30th St in Lewiston.  The google map is here.  Be sure and bring some homebrew and this is a Halloween Party so please dress (in)appropriately!

What a success this year's Oktoberfest was!  All I can say is if you weren't there, you missed a heck of a party!  Great Job everyone.  You can see what pictures I have posted here.  If anybody has any more, please let me know and I will get them up for you.

Mike asked that I post a link to the company that he gets the brats from.  We have been getting them from Usingers for a long time now and they never fail to impress.  There website is full of gift ideas and I am sure they are every bit as good as the brats.

Mike also asked that I post the recipe to his award winning stout mustard recipe here and I would love to!  So send it to me MIke!

September Meeting was at Marv's house and was a great time.  Marv has done a lot of work getting his house in order and it was a great place to hold a meeting.  Good job on the bar area and a million thanks for letting us make a mess out of it.  There were over 20 in attendance and a great time was had by all.

Mike had the leftover fair entries to distribute and last minute details were ironed out for Oktoberfest.  Dance Dynamix (a local dance group) has asked if they can perform during the festivities and we voted that indeed we would welcome them.  Also troop 162, a BSA troop from Lewiston inquired about possibly setting up a table to sell popcorn as part of their annual fund-raising.  Again a vote was taken and it was approved.

There were plenty of delicious homebrews there and quite a spread of snacks.

Dawn Melton from St Stans. was again there recruiting help for their beer festival being held on the 13th.  If anybody would like to help serve beer contact either Mike or Pete and we will let Dawn know.

Speaking of the "Taste of Hops", I have had several phone calls from people who have heard the ad on the radio for St Stans beer festival thinking that we had changed the date and location. Please make sure and let everbody know they are 2 different events.  I have contacted the radio station and gave information to them about our Oktoberfest and was told they would get it in their PSA rotation.  We'll see.

The work schedule is posted here.  If any member wants to volunteer to help out, shoot me an email and I will get you on the list.

The fair was great this year!  We had 47 entries which is up quite a bit from last year, but still a bit short of our record year with 61 entries.  Keep brewing!  I have posted an album of pictures here.

The LCSC Continuing Ed Homebrewing class-fall session is set to begin this Wednesday October 3rd at Pete Broyles house.  I think there are still a couple of opening so if you know anybody that may be interested, have them check it out here.  It's listed in the cooking section.

October Meeting will be at Dave and Betty Kendrick's house on Wednesday, October 31st at 7:00pm.  Date sound familiar?  That's right, COSTUME PARTY TIME!  I am sure we can muster up some prizes and prizes for costumes seems appropriate.

If any club members have any digital photos they wouldn't mind sharing, you can email them to me to be included on the web site here.

Anybody interested in joining can contact any member of the club, or just show up at a meeting.  Any member would just love to help a newcomer to learn to brew.

August Meeting was once again at Hogan's in Clarkston.  What a great place to meet, and still THE BEST micros in town!  Thanks again Tony and staff at Hogan's !! We had a great turnout this month with over 30 in attendance.  Lots of homebrew and lots of business this month.  Seems our falls get fuller and fuller every year.

Mike once again pushed Oktoberfest business as it is just around the corner on October 6th.  We need to get those beers brewed and carbed up so we can show everybody that the best beer in the valley is lurking in neighborhoods everywhere.  Sign up sheets were passed around for both the work details and for donating beer.  So far we have about 80 gallons committed and there are still a few open spots on the work roster, so get in touch with Mike or Dave Pankey and get your name down.

We also have some new events that we would like to participate in and spread the Joy of Homebrewing.

Sept 20th-23rd - Nez Perce County Fair  Entries are due Wednesday, Sept 19th and the judging will be on Thursday.  I think Mike has all the judges and stewards lined up, but we will let everyone know if we need help.  Get those entries ready for the fair!

Sept 20th - Business After Hours at locomotive park.  The Winter Spirit Committee commissioned the Hells Canyon Homebrewers to develop a Winter Spirit Ale for their luau to kick off the Winter Spirit for this year.  Pete and Marv came up with a winter warmer recipe and the committee loved it.  We were asked by them to come to the luau and serve the beer and help educate those about what exactly it is.  We will be brewing another batch of this on Monday, Sept 2nd at Pete's house and anybody is welcome to come hang out and/or help.

Sept 29th - Harvest Festival at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown.  We have been contacted to do a homebrewing demonstration.  Pete and Marv will be there to demonstrate an all-grain batch.  We welcome anybody to come and help and would love for somebody to brew a batch of extract beer as well.  Contact Pete or Marv if you are interested.

Anybody interested in joining can contact any member of the club, or just show up at a meeting.  Any member would just love to help a newcomer to learn to brew.

July Meeting was held at Hogan's in Clarkston.  Many thanks to Tony and the staff for accommodating us on such short notice.  Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to have our meeting as planned at Barleyhoppers.  The meeting was very well attended and the beer was AWESOME!

Mike again reminded us that Oktoberfest is just around the corner so get to brewing!  The club presented Marv and Doug with a plaque recognizing their achievement of winning a gold medal at the Reno Beer Festival recently with their Steamboat Stout.  Great Job Guys!

Pete and Nancy recently returned from a trip to the east coast and Pete gave a report on the breweries and pubs he visited while there.

There is a lot of brewing related stuff coming up quickly.  Of course the fair in Sept. and our Oktoberfest right after that but there are a couple of new things that we may want to be a part of.  The Clarkston Chamber is also planning an Oktoberfest, St Stanislaus Tri-Parish School is planning a beer fest in conjunction with their annual charity auction and the folks at the Dahmen Artisan barn in Uniontown would like us to do a brewing demonstration.  Detail will be forthcoming on all of these events and your participation would be much appreciated.

We had some giveaways this month from Sierra Nevada and from Deschutes brewery.

August Meeting will again be at Hogan's in Clarkston on Wednesday, August 29th at 7:00 pm.

NOTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Last Minute meeting location change!

We will be at Hogan's in Clarkston at 7:00pm for this month's meeting.  Sorry for the short notice.

Still having web site woes but it's getting there.

June Meeting was at Kent Mayers house.  I was not able to attend but those I spoke with that did said it was a good time.  Nothing for me to report since I wasn't there.  Dave Pankey brought a glass for this years Oktoberfest and I have heard it is wonderful.  Hopefully he will bring it again so we can get another look at it.

July Meeting will be at Barleyhoppers at 7:00pm.

If any club members have any digital photos they wouldn't mind sharing, you can email them to me to be included on the web site here.

Anybody interested in joining can contact any member of the club, or just show up at a meeting.  Any member would just love to help a newcomer to learn to brew.

We had a web site crash and it appears that Cableone decided to restore me back to some time in April.  I am doing my best to get it back where it should be.

May Meeting was at Noel Becks house in her lovely back yard.  Attendance was lighter than normal, but Hey, we were competing with the nice weather and the NAIA world series.  Nonetheless there were plenty of great beers and a good time was had by those that were there.  I personally missed the first 30 minutes as my daughter had a softball game, so I don't have a lot of details.

We featured giveaways this month from Stone Brewing from the San Diego area and Bridgeport Brewing Company from Portland.   I promise to keep better notes next month and try to get some pics to post.

From the AHA website:

Boulder, Colo. – April 25, 2007 – BIG BREW X (10) celebrates a 10 year tradition of a worldwide simultaneous toast to homebrewing and the enjoyment of great beer. No homebrewer should miss it. This exciting and popular event on May 5 will have 3,000 homebrewers worldwide savoring and singing the praises of a hobby that has been around thousands of years. Organized by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA), BIG BREW celebrates National Homebrew Day, honored each year on the first Saturday of May.

We will be participating by brewing (and toasting) at Pete Broyles house at 2110 2nd St. in Lewiston.  Come join us and take part in this day of brewing fun!  Click here for a map.  We will get started shortly after 9:00am.  Come any time during the day even if you can only stay a while.

April Meeting was held at Dennis Schult's house.  Thanks Dennis for hosting us and putting up with our mess.  We had a great time.  I think Ed said we had 19 in attendance and there were a lot of great beers there this month.

Mike opened the meeting and once again reminded us to put Oktoberfest beers on our brewing calendars.  He also let us know that Dave Pankey had the glasses ordered and we should get a picture from him to post here.

Marv announced that he is donating a brewing system that is near completion for homebrew club members to use.  Mark Reaney has it at his house now and reported that it is basically done, we just need to get some hoses, a pump and some disconnects and then get the thing together.  Anybody interested in helping out getting it ready, contact Marv or Mark.

Pete announced that National Homebrew day is coming up on May 5th (although he didn't know the date....).  He has registered his house as a site for the Big Brew day on May 5th.  Everyone is invited over to help brew beer in honor of the day.  We will get started about 9:00 am and plans are in the works for a lot of brewing going on.  We will BBQ and there may be a beer or two to be had.  Come on over for a good time!  Information on the Big Brew event can be found here.  Just so we can get a rough idea of who will be coming please drop me an email and I will do my best to have supplies available for people to brew with.  There are three 'official' big brew recipes, but you can brew whatever you want.

This months prizes were donated by Lagunitas Brewing Company out of Petaluma California and Big Sky Brewing from Missoula Montana.  We decided to do a blind judging of the homebrews this time (or at least a reasonable facsimile of blind judging).  Prizes were awarded to first second and third places and then we had a door prize for all those that brought beer.  The competition was tight.  Dave Kendrick ended up with the top prize for his fabulous Oktoberfest.  Hope he saves some for the party!  Dave chose the Lagunitas shirt.  Mark Reaney took home second place with an IPA that blew away the judges.  Mark got a Big Sky hat and a set of Lagunitas coasters.  Bob Hemphel's brown ale took home third place and was also very well done.  Good job everyone!  There wasn't a stinker in the bunch and I think we judged about 15 entries.

Thanks go to Lagunitas and Big Sky for their generous contributions to our club.

May Meeting will be at Noel Beck's house in Lewiston on Wednesday, May 30th at 7:00pm.

If any club members have any digital photos they wouldn't mind sharing, you can email them to me to be included on the web site here.

Anybody interested in joining can contact any member of the club, or just show up at a meeting.  Any member would just love to help a newcomer to learn to brew.

April Meeting will be at Dennis Schult's house on Wednesday, April 25th at 2044 11th Ave in the Clarkston Heights.  Click here for a map.  Be sure and bring some homebrew as there are more surprises to give away this month!

March Meeting was held at Dave & Betty Kendricks house and was a great time.  There were 20 - 25 in attendance, some came late, some left early so it was hard to get a count.  Thanks again to Dave and Betty for opening up your home to us.

Mike opened the meeting by reminding us to get brewing for Oktoberfest.  He also announced that we donated 250.00 to the Jackson Baldwin Falls Foundation.  As you know we try to make a donation of our excess monies every year this is a great place to put it.  You can visit the web site here.

We discussed glasses for this years Oktoberfest and it was put to Dave Pankey to search for a glass in the 10 oz size range.  Thoughts were that if we had a larger glass and limited the fill size, people may complain that we were shorting them.  Better to serve a smaller glass that is completely full.

Dave gave a financial report, but your webmaster wasn't paying attention.....  Sorry Dave.  He did let us know that he changed the time for his Tai Chi class so he will be able to be on time for the meetings from now.  It's about time you get those priorities straight, Dave!

Pete just finished up the fall term of the Homebrewing Class for the Continuing Education Department at LCSC.  The group will continue to meet on Wednesdays throughout the summer as long as people are willing and able to come by.  We will meet every Wednesday (that doesn't conflict with a homebrew club meeting) at 6:00pm in Pete's garage.  We will be brewing and/or drinking and just talking about beer.  Anyone is free to join us.

Dave Kendrick is attempting to organize a bulk grain purchase and took names for those interested.  If you were not at the meeting and would like to be included, get in touch with him and he can give you the details.  He also still has some hop rhizomes that he would be willing to part with.  Bring your own shovel.....

Pete brought some of the loot he has been soliciting from breweries to give out as door prizes.  This month we featured items from Full Sail Brewing and Rogue Brewing who were both more than generous in donating items to be given away.  Originally these were going to be prizes for our monthly homebrew competitions but Mike and Pete decided to give them out raffle style and the only way to get a ticket is to bring a homebrew!  Mysteriously, El Presidente, Mike Busch won the first giveaway and chose the beautiful Full Sail mirror.  Next (and I promise this isn't fixed) Marv got picked and chose a Rogue Brutal Bitter t-shirt.  Kent Mayer was next and he took the Rogue Ménage Frog t-shirt.  Dave Kendrick rounded out this months prizes with a Rogue Hat.  We also had Rogue newspapers and coasters for everybody.  Marv gave a brief talk on Rogue Brewing and John Maier who is the brewmaster there and a friend of his.  Pete gave a brief talk about Full Sail brewing.

Many thanks to Full Sail and Rogue for the donations.  Please support them by buying their great products.

Look for more great items form these guys and other breweries in months to come.

April Meeting will be at Dennis Schult's house in Clarkston on Wednesday, April 25th at 7:00pm.

If any club members have any digital photos they wouldn't mind sharing, you can email them to me to be included on the web site here.

Anybody interested in joining can contact any member of the club, or just show up at a meeting.  Any member would just love to help a newcomer to learn to brew.

This months meeting will be at Dave & Betty Kendricks house at 1131 30th St in Lewiston.  The google map is here.  Pete has been collecting some interesting things for incentive to participate, so be sure and bring some homebrew.

This contributed by Mike Halverson may be of interest.....

Consider this: In 1980 there were 48 breweries in the USA. Today, there are over 1500. For more hops history, check out The American Brew, April 5 on the History Channel.

February Meeting was held at Antonio's in Lewiston.  What a great time and really a good place to meet.  We should do it there again sometime.  The food and service were excellent and the area was more than adequate.  Thanks again to Antonio's!  Ed says we had 28 in attendance and several new faces.

Pete and Marv invited all of the students from the LCSC homebrewing class and most of them showed up.  Mark, Steve, Calvin (AKA Hillary), Joe, Grant, Bob and Bruce were all there and I hope felt welcome by our group.  They are an enthusiastic bunch and I am sure that we will be making some great beers shortly.

Mike reminded us that Oktoberfest is fast approaching and is only 7 months away!  Make sure and perfect that recipe and get some beer brewed for this years signature event.  Also Mike wanted to remind everyone that we will be brewing beer at the home and garden show at the fairgrounds on Saturday, March 10th at noon.  In addition there will be a wine and beer tasting event the evening of the 9th at the fairgrounds.  Check with Mike for details.

Mike also passed out some cards to everyone to help promote the club and web site.  Be sure and spread the word.  Our club is growing stronger all the time and as Mike stated, the beers are better and better all the time.  Kudo's to all our fine brewers.

Competition was tight this month with 17 homebrews brought to the meeting.  It came down to an Apple Cider by Brad Peer, A Russian Imperial Stout by the Whitlock father and son brewing team and a "High Gravity" Brown by Dan Prasil.  Dan took home the prize in the closest voting we have had in a long time.  Good Job Dan!

Dave & Betty Kendrick are having a "shop-warming" party this Friday, March 2nd.  Everyone is invited.  Beer, Burgers and Corn Dogs will be provided.  If you want, bring a side dish and beer.

I need email addresses for anyone who is not receiving updates from me.  i know we have some new members that I do not have email addresses for.  Please let me know by dropping me a line here.

March Meeting will be at Dave & Betty's on Wednesday, March 28th at 7:00pm.

If any club members have any digital photos they wouldn't mind sharing, you can email them to me to be included on the web site here.

Anybody interested in joining can contact any member of the club, or just show up at a meeting.  Any member would just love to help a newcomer to learn to brew.

January meeting was held at the Hell's Gate Marina restaurant.  We had an excellent turnout and had a great time.  According to Ed we had 28 in attendance and an informal count of the beers available was somewhere in the range of 20!!  The homebrews were all very well done.  Mike Halverson took home the prize this month with an excellent Red that he brewed up solo in his garage after taking the LCSC Homebrewing class.  This was just his second solo batch and it was absolutely wonderful.  Good Job Mike!

Dues are being collected again so if you haven't paid (or are not sure, like me) get in touch with Dave Pankey and he can help you take care of it.  Remember, it's just 10.00/year.  Most likely the best ten bucks you will spend this year.

Reminder that the LCSC Homebrewing class - Spring Session is getting ready to get underway.  Pete and Marv are teaching it together and the class will be Wednesday evenings between February 21st and March 13th.  If you know anybody interested, let them know.

Congratulations are in order for Doug Howell and his bride-to-be, Connie.  Doug announced their wedding at the meeting and is extending an invitation to all the brewclub members.  The wedding is in Potlatch, but the fun part is right here in Clarkston at the Moose!  Please RSVP Doug at mailto:doughowell@cableone.net?subject=RSVP from HCHBrewers.com so he can gauge how many beer swillers will be there.

NEWS/EVENTS

December Meeting was our annual New Years Eve party at Dennis Schult's house and it was a hoot.  Lots of people (I think Ed told me 25, but things are a tad fuzzy for some reason) showed up and we had a great time.  We played pool, darts and brewers pictionary which was a lot of fun.  We actually conducted business as well.  We decided to donate our excess cash towards the Jackson Baldwin Falls project that is going to be built near the Red Lion Hotel.

We had no competition this month, but the homebrew was flowing very well at the party and all were very good beers.

Marv and Pete are going to teach the spring session of the homebrewing class for LCSC so if you know anybody that is interested have them get in touch with the continuing education department or look for the class in the spring booklet that will be coming out soon.  Tentatively the classes will be held on the last two Wednesday evenings in February and the first two Wednesday evenings in March.

January meeting will be at the Redneck Yacht Club (in Hell's Gate State Park) at 7:00pm on Wednesday, January 31st.  Bring some beer!

November Meeting was held at Tomato Brothers and there were around 20 in attendance.  We set a record for 'meeting' length last night and had some good discussion.  There were a few new faces in the crowd which is great to see.  I am terrible with names, but one guy brought a beer he made and I must say it was an excellent first beer.  The other asked a lot of good questions and Dave Kendrick (hopefully) hooked him up with some used equipment he knew of.  If anybody is looking for some equipment, email me and I can post it here for all to see.  Likewise, if you have something to sell.  Maybe we can start a classified page??

Talk was had about doing a group brew at the spring home and garden show up at the fairgrounds.  Mike Busch and Rosies Ribs will be there and we have all been invited to brew some beer as a demonstration thing.  Pete is planning on bringing his system up for an all-grain batch and we will have the equipment necessary to do extract brews as well.  Maybe we could turn this into a Springfest to compliment our Oktoberfest.  In my opinion, the biggest problem with Oktoberfest is that it only comes once a year.  Let's see if we can get something going in the spring as well.

There were seven beers in the monthly competition and they were all great.  Voting was tight, but one beer stood above the rest.  Dennis Schult took home the prizes with a great Chocolate Stout.  Good job Dennis!

December Meeting will be the annual new years eve party at Dennis Schult's on Sunday, Dec 31st from 7pm till ????   Dinner will be potluck, so bring a dish and some homebrews and have a great time!  Contact Dennis for more details.

October Meeting was held at Hogans in Clarkston and was fairly well attended.  I think we had about 10 different homebrews considered for the monthly contest.  Marv's six year old Barleywine was voted the best, but since he brought the mug this month, he passed and Noel's Mead took home the prize.  There were some very excellent beers pouring.  We also dove into the left over fair entries but we still have some left for next month.  Marv and Pete are going to organize the monthly contests a bit better and are working on rounding up some new prizes.  We'll keep you posted.

The LCSC Continuing Education Homebrew Class of 2006 brought a sample of their first effort which was most quaffable.  Great job Mike and Dan!  It was intended to be a stout, but was actually more like a brown.  I guess I need to teach them to not give beers names until they try them....  Next lesson.

Some chatter after the meeting involved possibly organizing a trip to a brewery in the area.  Spokane, Coeur D'Alene, Waitsburg and Sandpoint were mentioned.  Think about it and we will discuss at next months meeting.

November Meeting will be at Tomato Brothers in Clarkston on Wednesday, Nov 29th at 7pm.  BRING HOMEBREW!

Another Oktoberfest celebration has come and gone.  This years party was an outstanding success.  The weather was wonderful, the beer was ALL good, and the food was most excellent.  German music filled the air and a good time was had by all in attendance.  The final beer tally was in the 160 gallon range and the beer line never seemed to dwindle.  Not sure how many we had, but in my estimation it had to be a record.  I have posted random pictures I took here.  If anybody has any others they would like me to include please send them to me.

REMEMBER...  October Meeting will be at Hogan's in Clarkston on Wednesday, October 25th at 7:00pm.  See you there!

September Meeting was held at Dave and Betty Kendricks house and as usual was well attended. Lots of beer and it was a great time.  Thanks Dave & Betty for hosting again.

Dave won the mug this month, but I don't remember which of the beers it was.  They were all excellent.

Finalization of Oktoberfest work schedules etc. were discussed.  Looks like we are ready for a great time and looks like we got plenty of beer.  The work schedule is posted here Can't wait!

The fair went well and we had 30 great beers entered this year.  We really need to promote this among the club members better.  I know there were a lot of great beers that were not entered.  Congratulations to Joel Ristau whose Stout took best of show.  Jay Crenshaw cleaned up and won the sweepstakes ribbon for the most blues.  Pictures of the judging and ribbons are here.  If anybody would like to claim bottles and/or scoresheets, they will be available at the October meeting.  All unclaimed bottles will be consumed there, so if you want them you'd better show up!

August Meeting was at Barleyhoppers on the deck.  There were over 25 in attendance and we had a great time.  Nice to see the cooler weather return for a change.  We discussed Oktoberfest and tickets and posters were distributed.  Contact Dave Pankey  for tickets and posters.  Dave asks that we 'pre-pay' for tickets so that we may be a little more diligent in collecting money and it makes the accounting end quite a bit easier.  We also took a vote and for the first time, we are supplying each brewer that donates a 5 gallon batch with a ticket with a limit of 2 tickets per household.

Mike Busch brought to our attention that George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers will be playing the evening of our Oktoberfest! I will definitely be there and hopefully Mike can send some tickets for O'fest to lonesome George and who knows?

Reminder that the Nez Perce county fair is approaching.  Entries will be accepted Wednesday Sept 20th between 12:00 and 8:00 pm.

Kim and Pam Jones took home the mug this month  with an excellent stout.  Voting was tight and there were some great beers.

Pete Broyles is going to attempt to fill Diane Lillibridges shoes and teach a continuing ed homebrew class this fall.  Classes will be every Wed in October.  Information is available at LCSC.

Dave Pankey brought an Oktoberfest glass so we could all see the end result.  Bottom line..... THEY LOOK GREAT!!!  Good job Dave!
